Wargame Academy Play by Graphics (PBG)
Email Interest Groups (PIG_xxx)
Bill Thomson 000816
WGA Charter
The following subgroups are individuals banded
together for the purposes of improving various game titles for
PBEM/PBG (play by email/play by graphics file exchange) play. This
includes unofficial/improved next edition rulebooks with all game
charts (Microsoft WORD eventually ACROBAT READER pdf) files, PBG
toolsets (Claris DRAW multi-layer editable maps; counter libraries),
various Claris FILEMAKER PRO databases; Microsoft EXCEL playing aides
and typically a playtest(s) of a PBG/PBEM system. Eventual transition
to a Java cross platform program. Stuffit will be the principle
compression application. These programs are chosen based on
commonalty cross platform file compatibility (Macintosh and PC).
'Stencil' font is commonality used as well.
Please not these are working groups (people
willing to take assignments) not a player group who will seek only to
benefit from these efforts. Do not volunteer if you cannot commit to
any effort. The amount of effort varies accordingly base on time,
ability, and resources (scanning, text conversion, editing, typing,
proofing, converting graphics, creating tables, compiling errata and
Q/A; rule interpretation, identifying rules requiring modification).
The end products will not be for sale and distribution will be
restricted to the PIG groups for their personal use, testing. via
play between members.. 'Not for Sale' and copyright of TAHGC/Hasbro'
will be common disclaimers in headers' until such a time as the
copyrights are acquired by the WGA/SQLA group (possible for out of
print games; games not to be continued by Hasbro). The initial game
titles covered include work partially/fully completed and games I
have an interest in. Others will be added as others volunteer to lead
the efforts. I am actively seeking purchase and/or licensing of
copyrights with the various copyrights holder as they are
identified.
Applications and Software needs
- Adobe ACROBAT READER 4.0 (common freeware to
both Macintosh and PC systems) using .pdf format. As such it is
preferred final format of documents.
- Adobe DISTILLER 3.0 is used to convert to pdf
format to create an non-editable file for public
consumption.
- Adobe ILLUSTRATOR 6.0 (Macintosh and windows)
for graphic generation for pbulication via graphic vendors. (I
seek 8.0).
- Adobe PHOTOSHOP 5.5 (Macintosh and windows)
for graphic editing and file format translation. (I seek 5.5 for
Macintosh)
- Caere OMNIPAGEPRO 8.0 for Macintosh (the Windows equivalent is
10.0) for optical character recognition (OCR) translation.
Translates scanned documents into word processing documents with
errors requiring editing.
- Claris DRAW 1.0v4-mac; 1.0-PC (Macintosh PPC
native and evolved from MACDRAW, MACDRAWII, MACDRAWPRO family)
high end drawing program with multiplayer capability. Now
available for 3.11+ windows for cross platform capability. Common
application for Macintosh users (and can be translated to/from
CLARISWORKS). Unlike its competition, it requires little ram,
little hard drive space, and does not put files throughout your
systems folder.
- Claris FILEMAKERPRO 4.0; common database
program for Macintosh users and industry. Cross platform file
capability due to Macintosh and Windows versions. Direct
translation from EXCEL and can upload to Interment. I will
convert to 5.0 for direct upload to the web. In the mean time my
home machine will be used as a database server (future
project).
- Claris HOMEPAGE 4.0 (Macintosh and windows)
editing html format webpages.
- Microsoft EXCEL 98/97 (Macintosh and Windows
either individually or as part of Microsoft office) dominant cross
platform spreadsheet program.
- Microsoft POWEROINT 98/97 (Macintosh and
Windows either individually or as part of Microsoft office)
dominant cross platform presentation program. A lower version word
file can be provided on request.
- Microsoft WORD 98/97 (Macintosh and Windows
either individually or as part of Microsoft office) dominant cross
platform word processor program. A lower version word file can be
provided on request.
- STUFFIT DELUXE 5.5 (Macintosh and Windows)
compression/expansion application Freeware versions of DROP STUFF,
DoRPZIP, DROP EXPANDER, for Windows and Macintosh found at
@www.Aladdinsys.com. STUFFIT is the dominant Macintosh
compression/expander application whereas zip is common to PC. DROP
STUFF (and drop expander) are desktop items that you use by
dragging the document onto to create a stuffed file. STUFFIT
EXPANDER works the same way to decode/uncompress a file to a
useful form. Both are one step operations although many steps are
conducted by the application. STUFFIT is the one step compression,
expansion, encoder/decoder (Apple double, Apple single, binhex4,
btoa/atob, CPT expand, Dearc, LHA Decompress, MacBinary, MIME
decode, PKG Expand, Tar, Segment, Txt convert, Unix compress,
unzip ) used my most mac users.
